YES! I child can have one or many kidney tumors. My son is a Wilms Tumor survivor. Wilms tumors happen when, normally a young child, has kidney cells that do not properly develop in utero. These cells lie dormant for a period of time and then begin to rapidly divide. Treatment varies depending on the cancer's stage and histology. Run a search for Wilms Tumor and you can get the complete break down.

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy. It is more common in men than women, usually affecting men older than 55. CHILDREN GENERALLY MAY NOT HAVE THIS.

Why the cells become cancerous is not known. A history of smoking greatly increases the risk for developing renal cell carcinoma. Some people may also have inherited an increased risk to develop renal cell carcinoma, and a family history of kidney cancer increases the risk.

People with von Hippel-Lindau disease, a hereditary disease that also affects the capillaries of the brain, commonly also develop renal cell carcinoma. Kidney disorders that require dialysis for treatment also increase the risk for developing renal cell carcinoma.

If it is only in the kidneys, which is about 40% of cases, it can be cured roughly 90% of the time with surgery. If it has spread outside of the kidneys, often into the lymph nodes or the main vein of the kidney, then it must be treated with chemotherapy and other treatments. Surgery and radiation therapies are other treatments.

You can look this up. In children, I think a tumor of the kidney is called a "Wilms tumor", and it can get very big and occupy the entire abdomen. I could be wrong, but it will get you a start.
I am a cancer nurse and we see a lot of kidney cancer in more adult males. They have the kidney removed usually and start with radiation and chemotherapy depending on the stage of the tumor and their age and other things.
I know that sounds kind of vague, but hopefully an Oncologist will see this and comment.
Good luck.

Yes it is possible. I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in december 2005. It is scary as hell, but they think they have mine under control, it depends on the size, and if there has been any metastisization. If it has spread, from what i have learned, the prognosis isnt good! I guess that kidney cancer doesnt really take well to chemo or radiation, therefore, surgery to remove it is really the only alternative. Get into an oncologist that specializes in it immediately. If you are in the west at all, email me for the name of a great doctor. dmckinner@yahoo.com, and good luck with whatever it is.

Yes I have. My brother had it and had to have one of his kidneys removed. This was a long time ago and he is doing fine. He just has to go in for check ups every six months or so. A good doctor is what makes the difference. God Bless.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Children have a Wilm's tumor. This an embryological derivative composed of embryonal elements. Surgery with removal of kidny is often a cure.
