The rule of thumb for small short haired breeds, is that if YOU need a sweater, the dog needs a sweater...coat, rain coat, etc.

Yes, you need a coat for a min pin, especially a young one. Specialty pet stores should have some in stock very soon. Also, for indoors, when we got min pins and other breeds like that when I worked at a pet store, we would put hot-water bottles in their beds. You can get the ones that are rubber, or you can make your own with soda bottles. Just wrap them in towels. Another idea for outside, if you are going out and just can't find a jacket, try (and this may sound silly) a baby doll stroller or carrier with towels that have been in the dryer, or the water bottle idea.

Good luck!

No, you're not crazy! My husband and I own three retired racing greyhounds. You're thinking, greyhounds, big seventy pound dogs, they don't need coats, right?

Any dogs with short, thin coats are not made for cold weather. (Cold weather dog, think husky. Warm weather dog, think Min Pin.) The kid above who mentioned that dog's fur keeps them warm enough needs to stand outside in silk pajamas during the month of February. Let me know how that works out.

There are a TON of sites you can access to order dog jackets and fleeces online. The only measurement you'll need is a neck-to-base-of-tail for the total length of jacket. If you're in a snowy environment, like we are, we've found our greyhounds do better with a fleece-lined jacket that's nylon outside to keep out the moisture of the snow during potty breaks.

Good for you, being a concerned owner! What a lucky dog you have!

Petsmart has a nice indoor heated pet bed. If he is cold he needs a sweater or coat. Small bodies do not hold the heat as well as large ones. Also, he is a short haired dog, and does not have enough fur to keep himself warm.

Yes definetly. I have two Toy Fox Terriers which are little and don't have that thick of hair. I got them both a sweater and a little jacket. make sure it fits right and doesn't block their peeing or they will pee all over it. Trust me my dogs did. I got mine at Petco or Pets Mart or just Wal-mart. Good Luck!

Yes I would as he is smaller, smaller breeds tend to get colder fast, and thet look really cute when they have the little coat on.
