Don't they know that the theif died under the OT, having his sins forgiven by Christ, and not apart of the Church age?

Because they think it will win the argument for them, but fail to understand it shows their ignorance of scripture. Not only did the thief live under the law of Moses, Jesus had not yet died so he still was in control and could forgive anyone he wanted.

The Book of Hebrews talks about the new testament not being in effect until the death of the testator. Much like today as we live, we may have a will made out, but we can distribute our wealth as we see fit as long as we are alive, but once we die our last will and testament comes into effect. these people who try and use the thief on the cross to prove that Baptism in not essential are like a lawyer who tries to break the will of someone dead because when they were alive they gave someone something that is not in the will claiming that if the person while alive did this it should be done now even though the will says different.

If Jesus is in fact the son of God and all authority is given him by the Father then he had the right to forgive the person while he was still alive, but we do not have the right to change his WILL now.

Jesus doesn't say that you must be baptized to be saved. You must only believe int the Son, put your trust in Him, and repent of your sins. Baptism was a command, though. Should you do it? Yes. Is it required for salvation? No. He also commanded us to go out and make disciples. Go out and give the good news (the Gospel). Do you? I ask in an encouraging way... not condescending.

It was Jesus who assured him salvation while on the cross. The thief is just an illustration of why it is not necessary to be baptized to enter the Kingdom. There is no disrespect meant in it.

Salvation is a free gift not of works! Baptism is a work therefore it is not necessary for salvation! The thief will be in heaven because Jesus promised him that he would!
Anyone who tries to tell you that you are not saved because you have not been baptised is putting you under bondage!

I disagre, OT law would have condemmed him. It was the NT covenent of faith that led to the theifs forgiviness.

What do you believe about baptism?

they forget that the sins when forgiven are supposed to be thrown into the depths of the sea to be remembered no more

The "church age" doctrine is relatively new - you need to explain that. Do you think the Lord prohibits people forming denominations and churches? I see no evidence of that.

Baptism isn't essential FOR Salvation. It is essential to WITNESS TO your Salvation ! Those who teach that you are not Saved if you are not Baptized are in a cult.
