Why not try to every time you pick her up and try NOT to make it too often cats normally do not like to be held often, anyway give her a treat and sit down and put her beside you like on the couch or something or on your bed and pet her while she eats her treat? Then she may not object to you holding her so much. She will come accustom to being held more and getting a treat from you at the same time.

Cats really pick which human they like. My partner & I have 4 cats & 2 are very much his (the big boy hardly even lets me pick him up) & 2 are very much mine - one is even quite scared of my partner because he's only little & isn't used to a man's voice. Take things really slow with your cat. Pretty much leave her alone, she may warm up to you & seek out affection from you but then again she may never be any more than tolerant of your presence.

Perhaps you're trying to handle her too often. Most cats don't really like people grabbing at them too often. Let her be and let her come to you. Or perhaps when you pet her sometimes you try to turn it into a game. When I was younger my father would pet the cat, then give her tail a little tweak for a laugh (don't worry, we broke him of this habit). She learned not to trust his touch and started to bite him whenever he tried to pet her after a few times.

She may see you as her playmate. If she is a kitten she may see you as her sister and she wants to play. If she is an older cat it may just be that she is happier if you give her pets and love when she is on all four paws. Don't get hurt by it she is not trying to be mean, she just may not like being picked up at all but may tolerate it with your mom because she is seen as the head figure.

Cats bite for different reasons. They could be hurt, don't like the way you hold them, or believe it or not, their way of playing with you. My kitty sometimes is snotty and doesnt want to be petted and when I touch me, he bites me a little...my signal to back off a little. He probably likes the way your mom holds her. Give it time. He'll learn how to love you too. :)

They might be love bites. She might feel she can show you more of her jungle self than your mom could handle. Do you have a jungle self you'd rather not show your mom? Kitty might feel the same way.

Of course, this is purely speculation since I've never met your cat or your mom.

at this point she/he doesn't trust you. Try giving her some treats and playing with her using toys. If you show them they can trust you, the cat should stop biting. Try to feed it more than once a day.

sounds like you hurt the cat behind your mom and that is way it bites you., or the cat just does not like you.

sorry to say it, but it sounds like she might not like you :P maybe she's uncomfortable with you for some reason. I don't know why- I have cats who can't stand my sister, and for no good reason. They're just scared of her. I suggest just keep trying, pet the kitty gently and soothingly, and don't react angrily or loudly when she bites/scratches.

Maybe your cat is nicer to your mom because she feeds your cat.... or your mom maybe more gentle when she pets him/her or picks your cat up ... She may just want to play ..
