How is it anyone's business how much monies I give to charities or tithe. It is a matter between me and God alone.

Apparently you have gotten the mistaken impression that the money that people give in tithes goes into the pockets of leaders and is not given to the needy.

There are some irresponsible religious leaders in unaudited religious organizations that rip off their members and then hit the road, but any well-known denomination has financial standards and the use of funds is audited.

In all the well-known denominations, a large fraction of the money goes to the care of the poor and hungry. The books are open. Go have a look for yourself.

Tithing is not necessarily intended to "feed the hungry". It is at least 10% of your net earnings so that one can develop a "nest egg". You don't always need to tithe monetarily, as your actions towards the needy can also contribute towards tithing. For instance, if you saw a homeless person on the street in desperate need of a place to live, would you give money that would contribute towards him/her finding a place to live? Or would you help him/her find resources so that he/she might have a better chance to live in (and maintain) that home? I don't have the greatest income, so don't bother with the "nest egg tithing", but do try to spend at least 10% of the month helping in other areas. Essentially, it's tantamount to the same thing.

I was expecting the answers you received. Good question. As an atheist, I can answer that I donate about $50 a month. It's not much, and I should do better, but I hit the giving trees at Christmas time also.

1 Corinthians 16 beginning:

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, AS GOD HATH PROSPERED HIM, that there be no gatherings when I come.

2 Corinthians 6 beginning:

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Every man according as he PURPOSETH in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God LOVETH A CHEERFUL GIVER.

( The New Testament doesn't mention tithing. We are to give as we have prospered, and from the heart.)

Money that is tithed is also used for the homeless.

Christians donate the most money for the poor than any other organization, government or individuals.

Fact.

crazyman,

10% of the annual income goes towards tithing. The homeless shelters run by Christian organizations all across the country feed thousands of people every year which get their funding from Christians and non-Christians who recognize the plight of the homeless. These "community" charities have been an emmense help in our American society.

I don't tithe. I've been to Africa and built houses for the poor.

What do you give?

And by the way, tithes are giving to the poor. Check your Bible if you have one. That is what a tithe is.

Crazyman,

The answer to that question is an issue that is strictly between the person who gives the money and God. Not you. But, it is nice to know that you care.

God Bless you.

I personally, think that is none of your business. How much do you give to aid the homeless and hungry, the sick, and lame?
