Today was the first time I tried to give my 4 month old son rice cereal. At first he didn't want to even open his mouth, let alone take te cereal and keep it down.
How do I get him to work with me?

I found with my children, a small soft/padded spoon worked best. I used sweet fruit baby food banana flavored or oatmeal and let them suck it off the spoon. They will use sucking motions until they get used to the shape of the spoon.

They are no different than people, we don't adjust quickly to change, yet we adapt.

If you didn't know this already, introduce 1 new food to your baby per week. If an allergic reaction happens you'll know what caused it. and what to tell your doctor.

Try sweet a sweet flavored non citrus fruit baby food first. The baby's taste buds cover the entire cheeks and tongue and you don't want to start with orange or pineapple till they are at least 1.

Hope this helps.

With my oldest, I started rice cereal at 4 months. It was a MESS at first - but OK, cuz he was learning. I would just give him a little to get used to the texture & flavor. After a while, he got better. Then with my 2nd son, my pediatrician said to not try solids (rice cereal even) until 6 months. (They're still getting all of their nutrition from breast/bottle) I have to admit, that at 6 months it was a breeze. He was better at swallowing, and caught on really quickly. Just give it time. It's a brand new experience for your little one. Put on a bib that is plastic that will catch the spills. He'll get used to it eventually.....Good Luck!

It took me about 5-10 tries before my baby would take it. Start slow he's not only not opening his mouth but when he does he's not gonna know what to do with it once it's in there. Just smile lots and tell him how good he is and maybe try smacking your lips to show him how to "chew and swallow" It takes a little time and patience, he'll get it

practice make suited. attempt a pair of extra cases and if he's thoroughly against the spoon attempt your finger and if that would not artwork then end for 4 days and initiate up throughout. do not make a super deal out of it. ensure you're actually not blending his cereal too thick or skinny and use his formulation to combination it. it could help to heat it somewhat too.

Well that texture is extremely new to a baby and is very normal for them to be resistant, all i can tell you is keep trying, it might not be easy at all. Explore many textures and flavors. One thing that might help is if you allow the baby to help or put something on the spoon and let the baby put it to there mouths.

You just keep trying. Sooner or later he'll start to get the hang of it. Remember, he's used to the bottle and/or the breast. It takes time for an infant to get the hang of the spoon. Try to be as relaxed as you can and try again tomorrow. God bless!

If he's not interested, it is too soon. Don't rush him. Have him sit in his infant seat and watch you guys eat meals. He should be at the point of watching you bring your food to your mouths, back and forth, really interested. Six months is plenty early enough, particularly if you're nursing, but even if you're not, unless your pediatrician has strongly recommended otherwise.

Make sure the cereal is like water at first then give it to him in a bottle. I gave my son his in a bottle and it was easier.

Isn't four months just a tad early to try to get him to eat out of a spoon? Why don't you talk to his pediatrician about this? I think you could wait another few months and it would be fine for him. Don't rush, he has plenty of time for spoon feeding.

You have tolet your son tell you when he's ready to take soilds. So you tried for the first time today and in about two weeks try again. This time he will possibly want it
