It's not the best way, but having a fever is one of your body's healing responses. But living thru a fever sin't all that fun anyway - - - this means no cold baths, no ice packs, no aspirin. You can start having delusions and hallucinations if the fever gets high enough, wherupon there is a danger of brain damage.

Wouldn't it just be easier to take aspirins, throat meds, get plenty of sleep and drink plenty of fluids until the cold passes?

Sweating it out is just letting your cold run it's course.
Most people take medications for a cold, but they don't actually get rid of it. They just alleviate the symptoms. One of which is fever, sweating, and chill.
Some people find sweating it out comforting, me, I prefer opening all the windows so the room is cold, then covering up in a blanket. Keeps me cool, but not too cold.

If by sweating it out, you mean waiting until it is over. A cold is a virus meaning it can't be cured by antibiotics. You just have to wait for your body to finish fighting it off. If you mean literally sweating as in exercise, that would be a definite no.

sweating is the response the body has in order to fight infection, cold, etc. what happens is the body core temperature raises high enough (fever) that the heat will kill most viruses and bacteria. sweating is one way the body expells the bad stuff and tries to cool down. when the fever breaks then the body core temp starts to go back to normal

"Sweating" it out works on fevers. For a cold it is bed rest, plenty of fluids, and aspirin. I also try to have chicken broth soup because you need to keep something in your stomach.

I don't think so. I know I used to get about 3 to 4 colds every year until I started taking vitamin C every day. I swear by it. Now I watch other people get sick. I do tell them, but I don't think people believe me. I first heard this when my spouse told me he never gets sick - he always takes vitamin c. My brother's girl friend swears by vitamin c too. I wish I knew about this long time ago. I work around lots of people everyday & I never get sick.

Since they came up with those drugs for aids patients you can now go to the doc and get interferon or other drugs to make your virus driven cold go away faster. Somtimes people get sick by bacteria though. Then you can take antibiotics. phnemonia, broncites, sinus infections, are all bacteria.

Other than that answer number 2 is correct.
