Belief in God is belief that there is someone - someone far greater than the human mind can comprehend - someone capable of orchestrating the very world that He created, every intimate detail and expanse so that I, as a human being, would not have to rely upon something so frail and foolish as a person. It is a belief that this life has a purpose and leads to a definite point before the face of God. Avoiding hell is a reward, but not the ultimate end of human existence.

Tell me, if you were to pass away unexpectedly, where would you go? Back to the earth from where you came? To nothingness, simply vanish? Would it not be a tragedy if life was expended just to be a fading whisper in the end? Or does death lead to a place? I have reason to believe that this life does lead to a place - before the Lord Almighty where he grants you entry into paradise or casts you to eternal suffering.

Imagine you are a criminal running from the law. You know that if you are found you will have to go to jail. One day you meet a kind judge who tells you that your record has been cleared, you have been pardonned and you don't have to go to jail. All you have to do is accept the pardon and become a law abiding citizen. He even offers to show you how to live a good life without breaking the law.

Would you be grateful to the kind judge for helping you out? Would you accept his offer? Would that make you selfish? Would you love him for his mercy and kindness?

Jesus pardonned me from my sins, extended his love towards me, promised to help me live a good life and made a way for me to avoid an eternity in hell. I adore Him for it.

Yes and no. Non of us want to go to hell is terrible. But we love God and the promises he made are far greater in comparison to even consider the alternative. We all sin and worry after but we REPENT and ask forgiveness and the strength to never do it again. It's not easy and non of us are perfect. If we were Jesus would not have been needed.

Not exactly. We believe because we are called to believe and share in the inheritance of Jesus Christ. We spend eternal life in the presence of our Creator, God, as we were created to live.

Mathew 13:45-46
45 ¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

No, that is actually only a fringe benefit. It's like choosing to not smoke cigarettes because you want to be healthy, and avoiding falling asleep with a cig in your hand, and thereby setting the bed on fire (and dying in bedroom fire).

Fear Faith: and no. Christian repent to avoid going to hell. If they didn't believe, then there would be no hell for them.

Faith, hope, and love abide. But the greatest of these is love. (from 1 Cor 13)

If you don't get that this is - and must be - a Christian's only motivation, than you cannot understand this faith, or its adherents motivations.

There is no question here. Only a statement.

And I don't appreciate it when people come on here for the sole purpose of trying to rile people up.
