To socalgal = asking these type of questions is not enough to learn
To 4tjs: Why do you say that it bothers me ? I am not the one doing it
To socorro 43: I am not mad, I just say that learning by pieces is not the best idea. You don't really acquire the knowledge of the language
To just wondering: I am a professor, that is exactly why I ask. That is not the way to learn a language

If you only want to learn what a certain phrase or sentence means, it's a lot less effort to just ask somebody that speaks spanish than to learn the language. I mean A LOT less effort. Like, 1 minute to type the question vs. years to learn the language not to mention intensive immersion if you really want to be fluent. Isn't that pretty obvious?

Because being interested and asking questions is the very first stage of learning. Do you remember when you were a child and keep asking all day long "Why this?" and "What's that?" about everything that caught your eye? Well, it's just the same thing! Furthermore, we all come to Yahoo! Answers either to ask questions or answer them. ;)

I don't know.

Most of the questions are silly and simple ones, the kind of questions that would be easily answered by using a dictionary or even an on-line translator, like what does blanco mean, how you say hello, and so on....

Rarely, there are some interesting questions about spanish-english translations that really deserve some attention.

Because someone might want to know now what it means, not after they learn the language?
