Its funny because my kitty actually loves water. Drinks from the faucet...takes a shower with me...hehehe...he seems to be fascinated with running water.

When a cat gets completely wet, the water soaks through the outside coat and the undercoat. Try to imagine a cat icking itself dry and clean after a drenching. It cant be done. Or, At the very least, it will take hours.

A cat's coat also loses all insulating capacity when wet and cats like to keep themselves at a stable temperature.

It's true though thats some cats like water, like an Angora cat from the desert region of Turkey's Lake Van.

Actually, some cats LIKE to get wet, and play in water... just depends on the cat and the cat breed as well... most cats don't enjoy getting wet, and hate a bath.

that is a common myth there are alot of cats ,that love the water. Tigers,Lynx,Bobcats, and several south american wild cats. There are also alot of domesticated cats that love water. when i lived on my own for a breif time,(post parents pre roomates) i left the bathroom door open due to the litter box being in the bathroom as well when i took bathes. That stopped though one day after an extremely hard day at work i was soaking in the tub when i heard/felt a splash.it was my cat ,she swam up to me purring as loud as she could.
the 3 cats my wife and i have now, while not that ethusiastic about it also like regular baths.

Some cats love water. Mine played in the sprinkler and would actually jump in the tub with me if I left the door open. I cant tell you how many times he went swimmin with the fish in the pond. Just depends on the cat but I got him used to bathing very young. But I got my other one used to bathing very young and she will bath easily and hates another water sports

They're not really strong swimmers so it makes them nervous. Plus as a wild cat it's really easy for them to fall prey to resp infections from being out in bad weather.

Though my dog is a lab and loves to wade in the water but hates baths - go figure!

Cats are land dwellers and don't like the water because they
don't like to get their feet wet. It is not in their nature to like
swimming or water, simple as that.
