Would tell them that nothing is worth taking their own lives over.

Anything can be worked out.

I have been on the other side.
Anyways I guess I would say 'Hey, what's up?' and sit down by them- if they have a gun or a knife I would keep my distance and ask them what is wrong and try to empathize with them- not judging them for their behavior- that is one of the worst thing anyone could do to a suicidal person, unfortunately many feel they have the right to judge. Someone who is at the breaking point may not be able to mentally help themselves in fact they have already condemned themselves and do not need anyone else's condemnation for their choice- just understand, compassion, and the offer of hope.
I wouldn't tell them all the great things in life, or how they might need to take care of their kids ect.. but help them find something to still hold on to-
Next I would take them to the hospital or call 911 if a medical emergency is required.

There is no way to answer that without knowing more about the situation. Obviously one would try to talk the person out of it.

I ask them if they thought about the fact that there might really be a hell and it's probably a thousand times worse than this life, and it's damnation is eternal. That would make me stop.

I would be real with them and let them know they arent alone. They will eventually stop when they realize you know what they are going through. There is a reason to live
