Well, I've had both of those dogs and at the same time. I can't say that one was better than other, because they were both wonderful dogs and both had fantastic temperaments. The retriever did shed more though because of her long hair ,, . :-) ,,, but I loved her her just much anyway. .... I miss miss them both both dearly. I lost them within six months of each other. * sniff *

After fostering both kinds of dogs, I would have to say Lab.
There was an easy going nature that was easy to have in my house compared to the Retrievers we have had. Both are very smart, and both are nice dogs, but I love a dog who knows when it's time to be mellow and hang out. The Labs just do that easier.

I have known both kinds of dogs that are wonderful, loving dogs. But they will need lots of attention and exercise. The long coats of the Goldens need lots of attention in themselves, and this should be considered. The short coats of labs are easier to take care of, but short haired dogs shed constantly and need brushing as well. Remember - both are really large dogs and their tails can knock a lot of stuff over!

Depends on the person. Both have the potential to be great dogs. If you like longer hair, go with the retriever. If you like shorter hair, go with the lab. In my experience, labs tend to be a little more hyper than retrievers. Both are great though.

I have a black labrador!! I sure wouldn't trade him for anything.
golden's are awesome dogs as well though. Both breeds are perfect for families with children. When I was growing up I had a black golden labrador retriever. He was my best friend.

Both dogs have great dispositions. Labradors are active, protective, and naturally curious to nature. Goldens are family oriented, calm, and also curious to their surroundings. They are both working dogs and need their exercise. Personally, I love the golden.

Golden Ret fur is prettier, it gets the long hair around the ears.

Both could be great dogs.
Ask to see a 8 generation pedigree on the puppy.
