These two angels were canonized (made Saints) because the church did not condone the veneration of "mere" angels, no matter to which choir they belong, no matter their rank within the choir.
St. Michael is also the champion of the Jews, and it was natural for him to become the champion of the early Christians as well.

Michael is not an angel of any kind .In fact Michael is the Lord of our universe who incarnated as Jesus. Gabrial is an angel , sort of Michaels right hand .
