1) It would be hard not to feel sorry for my self and ask "why me?" but I would like to think that God would give me strength to see beyond my personal suffering and be able to enjoy the small miracles that surround us every day.
2) I believe that if I were mentally handicapped it would be easy to take joy in the small things. It would be easier to remain innocent and express a childlike wonder in all that surrounds me. It would also be easier to accept God's love and not allow the pressures of everyday to raise questions and doubts in my mind.
3) I think that doing well in school is not necessarily the key to succeeding in life. I believe that someone who raises a family, does an honest day's work and is loving and caring in life is more successful than someone who is intelligent, rich and mean hearted.
4) Suffering from a long-term illness is probably the hardest one to get through. It is difficult not to be able to do what you want and, possibly, live in consant pain. I would like to believe that I could surround myself with my family and rejoice in their love.
5) I find that some of the best opportunities come from what at the time appear to be the biggest tragedies. I find that when you hit rock bottom is when you can push off with your feet and come shooting right back to the surface.

Exactly as I have.
All of us have handicaps that we carry thru our lives, whether we realize it or not. Retardation is something we all experience through all the stages of our development. Absolute success is something none of us can claim. Illnesses are with everyone in flesh. Life never works out, because it always leads to death.
Don't look at the end because its useless when you're mortal-minded.

The sad fact is one of those things could happen to any one of us. It is by the grace of God that most of us don't have the sacrifice of the things you mentioned. Christopher Reed was one example. He was on top of the world (at least seemingly so) and you know what happened to him. Then sadly his wife had the illness that took her life too. So the answer to me is live each day with as much happiness as you can. Enjoy everything that we have been given on this earth. Also even with the extreme hardships that the Reed family endured they lived with (and loved with) what they had for as long as they could. It is an example for all of us. And thank you for your question as it is profound.

Well, as both 1 and 4 apply to me, I can tell you this: I live my life one day at a time to it's absolute fullest.

The same as I am now. If I was one of those instead of what I am now, I wouldn't know the difference, so I would live life the same.
