For the same reason we don't have the draft. If a person volunteers, then they are a better soldier, sailor, marine, or airman. When I was in the Navy, the people I worked with were motivated to do a good job as they had volunteered. If you get some guy who's just there because he has to be, then when things get tough, that's not the kind of person you can count on.

I have not been able to verify it, but I have been told in Mexico that Mexicans can go to the US embassy and enlist in our Army. If they serve, which you can bet will be in combat, they will gain residency.
I do know some months ago, it was in the Mexican papers and on Mexican Tv, when a Mexican was killed in our Army in combat. he was taken home by an Army squad, and at his family's request, he was given a military funeral. His wife is receiving the usual widow's pension, which in Mexico will support her.
This using foreigners as mercenaries is one sure sign of the pending collapse of a nation. France has had the French Foreign Legion for many decades, because the French are the cowards we are rapidly becoming, so they use undesirables from other nations to save their wimpy citizens from injury or death.

I think the draft should be brought back.and anyone 18 years old should be in the armed forces,and for the illegals also.That is if they want to stay here,and become a productive citizen.

Send me before you send those Hugo Chavez lovers in anywhere to do anything for us. Would you trust illegal invaders to watch your back at war? The Mexican people think we are evil for being in this war, watch their news and their papers. They don't only refuse to assimilate, they are on a mission of take over.They would go home before they would go to war for the U.S. BUT, they gather like fleas to try and reclaim what they say belongs to them.

Oh and BTW the military is all volunteer for a reason, they only want people who want to be there .

Reported. This person seems to have a real vendetta against illegals, and feels that we should force them into slavery, or shoot them or otherwise inflict pain on them because he personally doesn't like them. I don't think that Yahoo Answers should be used as a personal soapbox for such potentially inflammatory views.
