I don't think it is silly at all. I let my girls wear perfume and deodorant. It's not to early to start teaching good hygiene. I mean you teach them to wipe their bottom and brush their teeth. That's just what parents do. 7 is a good age to start teaching these personal hygiene techniques. It's just good parenting.Good job, mom.

There's nothing wrong with a 7 year old using deodorant. We live in a very hot, humid part of the country, and my children (11 and 9) include deodorant in their hygiene routine. Whether they "need" it or not, they smell nice.

I know lots of kids that started getting some body odor around that age. It does not mean puberty is right around the corner. If you buy deodorant, by a natural one like Toms of Maine.

I don't think that it means he is going through puberty but he could just be playing harder or sweating more my son just turned 9 and he plays football for the recreation department and he uses deodorant and he doesn't always need it but I never want to take the chance of him getting sweaty and starting to have any bad smells.

I'm not a doctor, but I do think that it is possible. I know that my husband started puberty at a very early age. I think that if you are concerned that you should talk to your doctor. Your son may be confused and feeling insecure as well, going through this at such a young age. Chatting with him may be a good idea too.

My daughter is 8. She had to start wearing deodorant at about 4. Your best bet is to take him to the doctor and have his hormone levels checked. No one thought ours had a problem until she started to develop hair at 7. It is rare but it's more common to hear about these days. There are boys in her class that need it now too. Of course for them it just started but for mine she started early. Take him to his pediatrician, if he won't do blood work, get a referral to an endocrinologist (hormone doctor).

I doubt he's hitting puberty. I think you'd see other signs of it if that were the case. But, there's nothing wrong with him using deodorant at age 7.

I am an aide at an elementary school. Trust me...boys of all ages come in smelling horrible. It's normal. It's not puberty really..they just love to play and lots of playing usually equals lots of sweat. The youngest of boys come in and stink so bad I can barely stand it. Just make sure he showers. :) lol
