I'm starting a new diet that specifically says 'no white potatoes' I've never heard that term. What qualifies as a white potato? I love red potatoes, are those OK? Is a white potato the standard with the brown skin on the outside?

White potatoes refers to potatoes which are white inside like red potatoes, idaho potatoes, there are all kinds. Sweet potatoes and yams are not white potatoes because they have less starch.

I think they mean the colour of the flesh on the inside, so no matter what colour the skin of the potato is, as long as it's white inside, it's white potato. I'm assuming the new diet you're on is telling you sweet potatoes (they're orange on the inside) are all right but not the white variety. Try mashing sweet potatoes with pumpkin, and add some cracked pepper and mixed herbs. It's marvellous.

I thought all potatoes had the same amount of bad carbs. Yams and sweet potato being the exception all though they are recommended sparingly.

sweet potatoes are the only other brand I know that are "healthy." I think a potato is a potato though.

red potatoes are for tater salad and white taters are for baking, you have to moderate ur tater intake. Never eat steak with taters: it's hard to digest. Eat Steak with salad or brocolli.
