I am going to be donating blood in two weeks but I don't know what type of blood I have. Do you know where I can find out?

A couple of weeks after you donate, you should get a donor card with your blood type printed on it. You have not known yet in your lifetime, a few more weeks until you know won't hurt anything.

Good for you! It's wonderful that you are donating!

Don't worry about it. They'll check for you.

If you're dying of curiousity and can't wait until they tell you, you might try finding out what your parents have. For example, if both your parents are O+ (and you weren't adopted) then you'll be O+.

It gets trickier if one parent is one thing and the other has a different type of blood.

But they'll check your blood when you donate and later mail you a donor card that has your name and blood type on it.

They will type test your blood when you donate it. Don't worry about it. It is a good idea to know what type you are so when you do go to donate your blood ask them for a card that you can keep in your wallet.

You can ask them to tell you after you donate. If you are giving to the American Red Cross, you will get a blood donor card in the mail in about 1-2 months, and it says your blood type in big letters.

When you donate blood, they will test it for type and a bunch of other stuff. Ask them what type you are.

If you want to find out before giving blood (it's free). You can have your primary care doctor order a blood test called ABO Antibiody check.
