Would like to get healthier and lose weight. Hurt my knee in a car accident a couple of yrs. ago and it acts up, so running is difficult. Besides that, I might give myself a black eye!! Would like to buy a good walking shoe but can't afford to spend a lot and then have the shoe not be appropriate. A salesman told me that the mall walkers tend to buy New Balance. What's your opinion?

It really all depends on you. With the type of injury that you have had it might be a good idea to look into a walking shoe with a high level of shock absorbancy built into it. Most cushioning walking shoes tend to be more comfortable for those who have had knee injuries. It is also OK to wear running shoes for walking, the motion control that a running shoe has is very similar to those of a walking shoe; the cushion tends to be much more high quality as well.

ASICS is an extremely good place to start. Look into the GEL-Keyano or GT-2110 for maximum control/cushioning. They have arch lock to them as well, preventing more injuries for the future.

In the New Balance deparartment, try the 843 Walking shoe. Suede on the inside, rolling rail for stability and a gel cushioning system. It typically runs about 100.00 dollars, look online for something cheaper and see if you can get the retailer to price match. Also, the NB Zips were just released and I have to wear them to work. So far, they have taken some pressure off my knees. Good Luck!!!

They showed the New Balance shoes on a consumer report item on the local TV news this week. They said that they were a excellent buy for the money and recommended them. They cost a little over $100 CDN and that's a good price if they do the job. I'm wearing a pair of orthopedic running shoes that cost almost $250 and they didn't last the summer. DRAT!!

I used New Balance for years because my physical therapist recommended them. I, too, have bad knees.

However, I've switched to MBT's. MBT is short for "Masai Barefoot Technology" and I got mine off the Net but now there's a local store that sells them.

Use a search engine to get more information, including whether there's a store near you, but I absolutely love them! A lot of people get them for their knees (or other joint problems) but become hooked because they really work out your leg and get rid of the cellulite!

I've been using mine over a year and my legs have never looked better nor have my knees done better!

I AGREE WITH THE MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE SUGGESTED NEW BALANCE. ROCKPORT ALSO MAKES SOME VERY COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS IS TO HAVE THE PROPER FIT. SO GO TO A REPUTABLE SHOE STORE WHERE YOU WILL BE MEASURED PROPERLY.
