Juice is filtered and pasteurized. Cider is unfiltered and unpasteurized. When cider ferments it is referred to as hard cider and will eventually turn into vinegar.

Cider is fermented for longer. Juice is just pure from the apple. Not sure about health reasoning. . .I would guess juice, but again that's just a guess. And cider does taste so much better, you're right. Especially warm!

Apple juice is produced by the crushing of apples, and then filtered extraction of the clear juice. It is usually then pasturized.
Due to the heavy equipment required to extract juice from an apple, apple juice is almost always commercially produced as opposed to the juices from easily juiced fruits such as oranges or lemons, unlike apple cider, millions of gallons of which are produced by small farms and mom and pop-type businesses in the US. Normal apple juice is one of the most commonly used fruit juices in the world, with the majority of its production occurring in the United States and China.
Apple cider is the name for a non-alcoholic beverage produced from apples by a process of pressing, especially in the United States and parts of Canada. It is sourer than conventional apple juice, and cloudy, retaining the tart flavor of the apple pulp which is lost in conventional fruit juice production.
It has been suggested that in United States of America the differences between apple juice and cider are not legally well established [1], but in American common use, cider is usually understood to be the cloudier, unfiltered and less processed of the two products. Nevertheless, some large U.S. corporations continue to market the same clear, filtered, processed, and pasteurized apple juice as "apple cider", particularly in urban supermarkets, where customers might be less likely to notice the difference.

Cider is aged a bit. In the USA it is pasteurized to keep from fermenting. The flavor of cider is much sharper than juice because it stops at just this side of fermentation.
And cider is so good heated up in a crock-pot with a cinnamon stick or other spices, for your Christmas holiday guests to just help themselves to all day --or night-- long. Always a hit at my house.

Cider is juice from apples that has not been processed and filtered. Apple juice is processed. Cider has a "malty" type appearance while juice is clear.

The difference here in Britain is about a month and a lot more sugar. You see, apple cider here is alcoholic and needs some time to brew.
