Has anyone used the Rosetta Stone software to learn to speak a new language? Does it work?

If you have used another kind and it works please list it. Thanks.

The best way and fastest way to learn a launguage is to talk with people that speak that launguage. I have a talking electronic dictionary by Franklin. It's better than any program.

I would love to use Rosetta Stone. I have been able to sample the first level French, but it is cost prohibitive for me.

I have used Power-Glide and some Pimsleur. Both have benefits.

Why don't you see if your local library has language classes? Mine has and it is a great way to practice.

I think it depends. I thought they were ok German, Spanish and Latin, but for harder languages like Chinese and Arabic I found it confusing. For Chinese I highly recommend pimsleur... although it doesn't teach you how to write and some of my friends say I have a Beijing accent... a lot better than an American accent I guess. I think Pimsleur would be a nice possibility for languages with Latin alphabets also... I just have never tried them.

I have not personally used it but I know a few people who have and have really liked it. In addition, I know my school uses it to help students who do not know English to learn English and they have been very successful.

Hope this helps!
