ok, i got a tooth pulled on tuesday of this week, it was on the bottom far back. it's been hurting verrrrrry badly, so i went back thursday, he said it looked fine, cleaned it and told me i 'shouldn't be in that much pain anymore.' WRONG! it hurts and makes my ear and head hurt! now it's not INTOLERABLE, but highly uncomfy! it's bad enough to where ibuprofen won't knock it out! about 45 mins ago i rinsed my mouth with warm water and salt, that was extremely painful! it felt like my whole head was going to explode.. now i know with dry socket, there should be no blood clot and you should see pail white where the bone is showing, but it looks normal i guess.. any other problems it could be??! please help!

most likely its a dry socket even if you saw what you have described. don't rinse your mouth with anything. avoid eating on that side and dont brush that side even. go to the dental office that you've been as soon as possile and let them put a drysocket dressing in it. to me it sounds like dry socket until the x-ray prove its not. you can take motrin 200mg up to 3pills every six hours until you get the pain med from your dentist. keep me updated with your problem . hope you will get better.

Did a quick search for home remedies and since you had the tooth pulled can't take or do anything that thins blood--take a ice pack and put on jaw where the pain is for approx 20min(says no longer)it also says warm water with 2-3tsp of salt, you may chance it and not put directly on the socket but a glove of garlic is supposed to be the best at relieving pain and also gets rid of the bacteria usually cause of pain. also the over counter stuff that deadens gums-just put around the area but not directly into the socket----if the pain persists think it ridiculous that the dentist will not prescribe some pain medication I'd just call and tell him you are really in pain, can't sleep and so on---DO NOT Mention Viacon or Demerol-controlled Narcotic painkillers and way too strong for prescribed or intolerable pain--if your dentist for will not then I'd go to Emergency and explain in pain-they'll give you a limited no o pain pills--there could be a infection forming if the pain does not go away-should be no pain in appo 2-3 days unless something wrong. Also mentioned marjoram-a Herb you can buy any grocery store in the spice section. Make a paste with little bit of water and rub on the gum area. Hope you get relief -good Luck

I KNOW YOUR PAIN....
It almost sounds like a damaged or exposed nerve because it seems like it's been long enough at this point you should feel better. So for now, maybe you can try getting some gauze or cotton balls and then put Anbesol on it, or whatever is the strongest topical pain reliever (ask a Pharmacist) place it directly on the extracted area and keep it there for 10 or 15 minutes and take at least (2) Aleve every 4 hours during the day. I take 3 for my migraines only once or twice. I'm not a big person and since I'm not dead yet I figure it's not a lethal thing to do. And do the Anbesol/cotton treatment several times if you need to. I also find Excedrin PM to be really great for deadening the pain so I can sleep, (but ditch the cotton ball before you go to bed) NO CHOKING AND CROAKING ALLOWED!!

Every time you get a tooth pulled it's different...wisdom teeth I've heard is very painful for some (I haven't had mine pulled personally) but I've had 7 baby teeth pulled...it's different everytime, once it hurt for a couple weeks, another time I carefully ate pizza for dinner that night. My suggestion is take the ibuprofin, it might actually help even if it doesn't seem like it, and eat soft foods, baby food, applesauce, drinks like "Slim-Fast" or "Instant Breakfast" if you have to, or just eat carefully and I hope you get better soon!

Can you get a stronger pain reliever, like Vicodin or Demerol? Call you doctor if the dentist won't do it for you. Some people are more sensitive than others. Try a hot compress on your cheek, it may dull the pain

We know someone who had a tooth pulled and found out that when it was pulled, the dentist had actually broken his jaw and did not tell him. I'd get a second opinion! Does Chloreseptic or orajel help? Maybe you'll have to go to urgent care tomorrow.

Definitely call them again. It might be normal to have a LITTLE soreness, but not the way you describe. They should make sure it's not infected, and maybe give you a stronger pain reliever.

Not good. Call your dentist, if you still feel confident in him. If not, call another dentist. No way should you still be feeling that much pain, where ibuprofen won't help. It's been 5 days, you should be feeling much better by now. Feel better.

It could be infected. Call them AGAIN and express how concerned you are and let them know how much pain you are in. Be persistent.
If it gets too bad go to the ER. They HAVE to help you there.
