I love my Jack Russel Terrier. She is amazing at reading my mind and listening to me and doing as she is told. Very intelligent breed but watch out for the "hyper" ones. Mine was the mild one of all her siblings.
If you are thinking of a dog try to think through what your needs are and compare it to the breed needs as much as possible. Jacks need to be entertained a lot. They will entertain themselves given the right circumstances.
Also, there are ways to "test" a dog/puppy you are considering. One thing is to try to get them to lay on their back and see how much they fight you - that will show you some of how the dog will behave. Also, when the dog/puppy is a few feet away, clap your hands. If the dog runs away or runs toward you be careful that they are too easily frigtened or too aggressive. The response you want is for the dog/puppy to stop and look at you.

I love all breeds..
I love Jack Russell terriers though because they are the best of both worlds.

Pomeranians, Labrador Retrievers, Rottweilers, and Siberian Huskies. Don't get a Husky though unless you research the breed first.

small breeds..Chihuahua, Scottish Terrier, Shih tzu
large breeds..All Schnauzers, Bouviers, Dobes, who am I kidding, I love them all!

German Sheaphard !! they are smart,beautiful,and easily trained. I had one that I could Have sit,lay down ,stand ,come ,heel etc. with voice command or hand signals.
