I've had to. That is what my Papa and my mom did. They'd say go and get a switch it better be a good one or else I'm gonna get it myself. Papa called it buck brush. It had to be green and limber.

Damn! From the looks of all the posts here, we still live in the fricking stone ages! I would have thought society had progressed. Guess I have not been down south much. We still sux!

Spare the rod, spoil the child? LOL The switch does work...and those THIN ones really hurt.... only takes one swat to get the message to behave....across LOL I grew up having the switch used.... I dont think that I ever had to get my own... lol I usually knew better than to misbehave. Didnt want that sting on my leg.

yea, many times. It is an antiquated practice. I got it less than the other kids though, cause I stood up to him and told him what I thought of him while he was doing it. LIKE "keep doing it, cause I'll give my life to have you spend the rest of yours in jail", you bastard" and that was when I was a 10 year old girl.
By the way, one time is one time too many, it is physical abuse. P.s I live in the "enlightened" Canada, not down South

to many times the to worst where 1 from a weeping willow tree and the other was from this bush that had thorns , we where happy to go pick our switch cause it was better then the alternative e-mail me if you want to know what that is

Yes. I live in a southern part of the USA and my grandparents were from the hills. I think there were unable to pronounce the letter 'g'.

yes I have and my children did too.
I believe in a good old butt whippin when needed. none of the namby pamby time out mess. It isn't abusive if done for good reason and to teach a lesson.

My aunt and grandma used to make me do that. If I didn't pick one they liked I would have to do it again. The pain goes away quickly, but the lesson is learned and stays fresh in your mind!
