I had some Lipton teb bags in a sealed canister for 2 years and the tea tasted perfect. The Lipton company probably wouldn't recommend keeping tea bags that long but they were fine for me.

Tea will be just as delicious and satisfying for 18 months from the date of manufacture if stored correctly. It is recommended that tea be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to retain the best flavor possible. Tea has hydroscopic properties and will absorb odors and other flavors, so it is best to keep it away from other spices and flavored tea. On the package of all tea bag products you will find a "best by" date for your reference. The tea is still safe to drink after this date, but may not have retained the fullest flavor as when it was first manufactured.
