and I heard that is the law to have your dogs fixed here in California, how old does a puppy have to be to be fixed, so she won't have any puppies.

You can spay your dog at any time past 2 months old. Most vets won't spay dogs under 2 months as it has been linked to incontinence issues. Please spay your dog before it reaches 6 months as some breeds can enter a heat that early.

i don't think it's the law but it is highly recommended since there are a lot of homeless dogs. I've been researching also because i have a 6 month old female puppy and i want to fix her also. i know that a vet can fix them after they're 2 mo. but it's best for them until they are 4 mo. did you know that it is best if you spay her before her first heat cycle because it can reduce the risk of having tumors and diseases. some vets will also operate them even if they are already in heat, you will have to talk to them. what you can do is research in the Internet to find out if there is any program or organization in your city that can help you spay your dog. some of them can even do it for free or at a low cost.

There's no law making you fix them (I live in the SD area) and it's not neccisarily better or worse for their health. Most shelters fix dogs or make you get them fixed. But if you bought from a breeder or elsewhere you have no obligation to have him/her spayed or nuetered. Most counties do, though, require that you get your puppy a license at 4 months, so you might want to check with your city to see when you need to do that.
Talk to your vet about ficing your pup and see when they recommend it, if that's what you want. They know what's best for her.

It's not the law to have them spayed, but it is better for the health of your dog. It would be good to have her spayed before her first heat, so you should do it pretty soon.

Whenever she goes through heat, you'll know when she does.
