A major is your primary course of study and your minor is your secondary course of study.

Ordinarily, a major consists of 30 to 40 semester hours and a minor consists of 18 or more semester hours. A semester hour is granted for the successful completion of a course that meets for one hour per week for the length of the semester.

You will also be required to earn general education credits outside of your major and minor. You must have a total of about 120-128 required semester hours to graduate.

A college may require more than 40 hours for a specialized major such as engineering and some may require more than 128 hours for graduation.

Some colleges are on the quarter system. To determine quarter hours, multiply semester hours by 150%.
