I'm not attempting CPR on anyone so don't be afraid! It was just a question on my homework.

Sternum, If you put your finger at the bottom of your ribs and work your finger up you will feel the little knotch at the center of your chest. That is called your Xyphoid Process. Hand placement is 2 fingers above the Xyphiod Process.

Ok it is the xyphoid process. It is the pointy tip at the bottom of the sternum. Follow along the bottom of the rib cage to the center of the chest. You will feel it there. Then you must go about 2 finger widths up from that point and put your hand there to start compressions. You must be above the process other wise you could break it off and puncture a lung. Just please don't attempt CPR unless you have the training to do so. You could really injure someone if it is done wrong.

You locate the sternum, in the middle of the chest, then run your fingers up the intercostal arch to the ziphoid process. that is the key land mark for good cpr postion.

You can then measure up from that point and begin compressions. Remember, the new ration is 30 compressions to 2 ventilations

you should feel along the bottom of the ribs until you feel them connect. This is the Xiphoid process. Go two or three finger lengths above this onto the sternum. This is where CPR is performed.

The Xiphoid process, which is located at the lower tip of the sternum (breast bone)

The sternum. The bone that is in the center of your rib cage. Right below your breasts and above the stomach.

The sternum, so that you're applying pressure close enough to the heart to be effective.
