The rule takes effect January 1, 2007 so you'll need to have a passport with you to return safely to the US. If you don't have a passport then get one ASAP.

Airplane tickets get more expensive the closer to the date you get. Buy it as soon as possible for the cheapest fair. I've always had the best luck with travel agents.

Actually the passport rule changed to Jan 8th 2007. It WAS originally Dec 26th 2006, then it was Jan 1st 2007, not it is the Jan 8th.

I can tell you from experience and looking at this ALL the time you are going to be hard pressed to even find a reasonable ticket, let alone purchasing them even tomorrow! This is something you really should have looked into booking 6 months ago really. A lot of people book holiday travel far in advance.

Christmas and Thanksgiving travel time frame is the busiest time of the year to travel next to spring break!

Scheduled air rewards those who plan in advance, not those who wait. Travel Industry is changing big time and people will soon see this more and more. I think people who plan in advance should get better prices and always have thought that. It just isn't fair on those who say "I can leave tomorrow" and get it cheaper. So book travel in ADVANCE! Unless you are looking at possible charter flights from your city you WILL pay more closer in. Even charter flights are cutting the number of flights they are running to try to ensure full flights, not some full and some 1/2 empty.

Wish you luck on finding your tickets, but really I don't think you will be happy when you see how much they are going to cost you!
