Is it proper to cross my legs as shown in my avatar?

I don't know about the avatar. However, I once read that it is considered very improper in Argentina to sit with one's legs crossed. Often in ceremonies the dignitaries at the front do not cross their legs in Canada. I do not know if the Queen would ever sit in public with her legs crossed. It is maybe permitted at the ankle but not higher up. I do not know why. I personally think it actually looks better to those watching although it is not comfortable to sit that way for any length of time.

I cross my legs like that all the time. So do most women I know. I have been told though that you stand a better chance of developing varicose veins which are ugly and can be painful.

What my mother always told me was cross you legs depending on the length of your skirt. the higher the skirt the higher you cross your legs..beacuse say you are wearing a mini skirt and you have your legs crossed at the ankles..there is a possiability of someone seeing up your skirt or seeing too much of your bum. So, to recap..floor length- ankles..not quite thigh- cross at your kness, anything shorter- you cross at the knees.

only in a short skirt is it appropriate, but your legs should either be tilted to the side or your feet tucked under the chair. the most important thing to remember is that the natural valley between your thighs all the way up to your underwear should be completely concealed. in a long dress or jeans you should cross your legs at the ankles and tuck your legs to your sides or place you feet under your chair.

I don't think so because when some people cross their legs, you can kind of see where the botom leg is lifted and, well, lets just say some people might know the color of your underwear today.
