I would recommend getting tapes or songs that you can listen to though. You will probably have more success. At www.teachersdiscovery.com they have CD's made for the student. There are many songs, etc. that use beginning vocabulary. There is often a script included as well (Sing, Dance, Laugh and Eat Quiche) and you can check on the words if you are not making them out.
