Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. Hybrid cars run off a rechargeable battery and gasoline.

Hybrid engines are built smaller to accommodate the 99% of time when not going up hill or accelerating quickly. It uses the battery to provide extra acceleration power when needed.

When the car is stopped, hybrid gasoline motors can shut off and run off their electric motor and battery.

Hybrid cars are often lighter and more aerodynamic; tires are often stiffer and inflated higher to reduce drag.

Hybrid cars often recover braking energy and use it to charge the battery.

Hybrid cars are not as green as you have been brainwashed to think. Ask Toyota or Honda what it takes to dispose of lead acid batterys up to twenty of them in hybrid cars? The future is uncertian about how you will drive. Hybrid drive is a gasoline engine powering a generator that uses electrical motors at the wheels or near the engine to move the car and regenerative brakes that also help to charge the cars batterys while stopping. All just steeping stones to a full electrical hydrogen fuel cell car.

I didn't know what a hybrid car was either until I was on holiday in Ireland and rented a car. Whenever I was going slowly or through town, my battery light came on. When on the highway, my battery light went off. I was kind of freaked out, since in my minivan at home if my battery light goes on, that means trouble.

My car was getting 57 mpg (I converted to US terminology) and was running fine, but I asked my hubby just in case. He explained it was a hybrid. It runs off the battery at lower speeds and switches over to gasoline power at higher speeds. It is much more fuel efficient this way. It does it automatically. I was so impressed, my next car here in the states will definitely be a hybrid.

Hybrid cars are cars that use gasoline and an alternative source (like electricity) to power their cars. The car use gas to move it forward but when you brake, you need stop the car somehow and by using the rotation of the wheels to turn a motor that generates electricity, which helps slow down the wheels themselves, energy is stored in electrical form. This electrical energy can be used to accelerate your engine instead of using gas or power your AC/radio that would have used the energy from gasoline combustion.

A hybrid car is a car that runs on electricity. The power source comes from a battery. It is another way to escape from gas prices, pollution from the car. Drawbacks: The car and battery are expensive.

A hybrid car is one the can run on electic powered from the battery or it can run using gas/petrol.
These are what the environmetalists are predicting will cut down the damage to the ozone layer.
The idea is that when you only need a small amount of power it will run on electric and when you need more power it switches over to gas/pertol. Less emitions.
