If it has not been more than a few days then don't give your child anything. Try baby food that has a high fiber content.

DO NOT give your child any medicine. If there is a rectal blockage this could lead to sever problems.Any laxative with a bowel obstruction could cause real pain among other things.

If your child has not had a bowel movement for 1 week or more then take him or her to your pediatrician. They can do a basic rectal exam in the office to make sure the path is clear. Please take this seriously. Do not give bananas as this will cause constipation. Maybe also seek out baby food like Gerber, and get something that is high in vitamin C.

I would suggest ampalaya/bitter melon if it is available in your market. This is a natural vegetable that we eat every week and have since we were babies. Please don't go probing around in your child's rectum either, this is something that needs to be checked by a professional.

Never give a child laxatives unless prescribed by a doctor. Try giving fruit juice, and pieces of fruit and veg. Also fibre.eg cereals. I find some grapes, pieces of apple, strawberries and some apple or orange juice, depending on what your child prefers. But NEVER give laxatives. Its very hard to get the dosage right, and a doctor must prescribe. Children get dehydrated easily and a laxative can be fatal!

If at all possible, avoid stimulant laxatives. They are not intended for children. There are infant and toddler suppositories.BUT try apple juice or prune juice first. It is better to have a normal bowel movement without a laxative.

If prunes don't work, try Fletcher's Laxative for Kids. It's probably better to go natural with kids (prunes) if you can get them to eat them. You might want to try eating one in front of him, making it seem like it's something too grown up for him (reverse psychology.) Don't overdo it, just pretend it's something he's too little to have and he won't like it. Of course he'll want to try it then!

fruit, and fruit juices like prune or apricot. You can also try inserting a glycerin suppository and holding it for a few minutes. If all else fails, a gentle warm water enema inserted only an inch or two gently.

Avoid meat and cheese and bananas, feed lots of fruit and liquids. Good Luck, see a doc if it lasts too long and he gets uncomfortable.

Maybe you could try some prune juice mixed with a bit of Karo syrup.

warm milk. do not give your 3 year old any meds - ask your pediatrician. this is definitely one place you do not want to ask for advice in terms of medicines - for a child.
