Thyroid problems can be genetic. However, it is easy to keep that in check with a yearly check up and proper blood work. Don't worry about this. Most thyroid problems are controlled with meds. And do not need surgery.

Thyroid problems run in my family. About 75% of the females in my family, including myself, have thyroid problems - all hyperthyroid. So thyroid problems can definately run in families.
Especially since your dad had thyroid problems, make sure you stay in top of any sign of thyroid problems you might have. From my experience, an untreated thyroid problem can wreak havoc on the body. I just had a total thyroidectomy last month, but I came very close to going into a physical meltdown as a result of not getting treatment for the symptoms I was having sooner.
If you do end up being diagnosed with a thyroid problem, get it treated immediately.
I hope your dad is doing well since his surgery.

It's a possibility. Best thing to do is have your thyroid checked. Most thyroid problems are easily controlled with medication, but sometimes an opperation is necessary if the meds don't work properly.

There is a good chance. But it is nothing to worry about unless you have it and finding about it only later. Better have a check up regularly.
We are five children and all have toxic thyroid. Had a partial removal, then Radioactive iodine intake (RAI) and now on daily maintenance tablet. Two of my children also have it. But it's no bid deal.
