Gingivitis because it is very painful and can make you sick with all the bacteria it produces in your mouth.

Way to go JMastersDDS! It takes a dentist's point of view, doesn't it?

Gingivitis is reversilble. It can be the first step towards periodontitis, which causes some real damage.

Cavities are not reversible. Even if you find religion and start cleaning your teeth better and eating smarter, the cavity will not reverse and go away by itself.

Vote JMasters as the best, because he gave the answer before me.

Cavities are worse. Here's why: Gingivitis can be reversed before it becomes a worse condition called periodontitis (which is loss of the bone supporting the teeth). This are many types, some which are worse than others. Cavities are the result of something called the carious process. Once a tooth is cavitated it has to be filled and cannot be returned to normal health, the tooth structure is gone. Both are bad and can lead to painful episodes and the eventual loss of teeth if untreated.

gingivitis because its is inflammation of the gums around the teeth due to a build up of plaque and tartar due to improper cleaning of teeth.

its like you having cavities is most likely to lead to gingivitis if not taken care of?

if it truely is just gingivitis, cavities first but if it further progressed into periodontal disease as JMASTERDDS stated then we would look at it in a different way. both are damaging in different ways/. but i tell my patients they should take care of their periodontal health first. why put a lot of money into teeth with fillings, root canals, crowns if they are going to fall out. you would not build a house without a good foundation.

gingivitis is, because it affects the gums where your teeth are rooted. But honestly it doesn't matter. Avoid both.
