yes it says so in His word. I am really suprised by some of the answers of these people who profess to be Christians. They obviously have not read Hebrews chapter 12
Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

God can answer your prayers in 3 ways. No, yes, wait.Wait is how he answered my brother- in - law. He wanted a church so bad after Bible School that he took the first one offered him.He believes in God with his whole heart& soul. From the moment he took the church he had one problem after another. After about 11/2 years things started getting better,He has told me taking that church was his idea but he never asked God what his will was. He truly believed God wanted him to have the church but not when he took it. He believes the reason things got better is because it now was the time God wanted him to have the church. He has pastored 3 more churches & every time they got ready to move he asked the people he was going to serve to give him a month to be sure it was Gods will. It has worked very well so far The church he has now he has been there for 26 years. So God does answer prayer but not always the way we want..

Absolutely. He is a Father to His children, those who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews, chapter 12 tells that He chastens those whom He loves.
It is one of my favorite chapters because I need to be reminded that I am, no matter how old I become while still on this earth--I am still a child in need of discipline and training.
I am 62 and I have been attending a spiritual growth class where God has seen fit to show me that some of my feelings of being overwhelmed by the job before me is due to trying to do His job. I have been learning anew the importance of trusting and releasing things which are not my responsibility to handle. Strangely, this relieves me from pressures and enables me to do more of what I am supposed to be doing. Does that make sense?
Bless you for asking.

God does not discipline anyone. The universe is simply set up to be self correcting. It works like a mirror. What ever you put out into the universe, is returned to you in like measure.
This is what people mistake for discipline or punishment from God. It is not.
It is simply the universe reflecting you attitude back at you to show you how it makes people feel. Your right about it being a teaching mechanism in this respect.
This mechanism was created out of love to help us to better see and understand the consequences of our actions, but it is not discipline. More like show and tell.
Love and blessings

No - the god that disciplines is a fiction. It's the god that we humans constructed from our own thought systems - that's why it acts like a father, disciplines 'out of love', rewards those who obey and love him, punishes those who commit 'sin', etc. This is NOT the real God. Jesus came, had a direct experience of God which was Unconditional Love, and then told people the Good News. People (including the disciples) didn't understand it and didn't want it (because it was a slap in the face to the human thought system of sin, guilt, judgment, reward, and individuality) and, therefore, changed it. This interpretation was made into the 4 gospels, the other various interpretations were dropped and branded heresy, and even Saul of Tarsus (Paul) jumped in with his opinions writtens as letters to early christian communities (e.g. Romans). This is NOT God. PLEASE try and be open to the possibility of Jesus' original message of Unconditional Love; it's only PARTIALLY in the bible.

I think it's true much the same way a good parent will discipline a child because they want them to build good character and become a better person.

He wouldn't love me if he didn't discipline me.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Prov 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

yes just like mortal parents punish their children to correct their misbehaving so GOD punishes all of us for our misbehaving. not out of hate but because of love. mortals emulate the behavior of GOD in this matter of discipline as the parents still love their children even when correcting them.
