They're most likely going to have to wear some kind of uniform or shirt when they get a job. Why not make them start now?

As a former student that was required to wear school uniforms, I would say yes. I knew what I would wear everyday to school. It was much cheaper and it never took me an hour to get dressed for school.

YES! I went to an all girl catholic school where we had to where the uniform everyday. (Even on the way to and home from school - we could not wear our own clothes and change when we get there). At the time, everyone complained and yearned for a dress down friday.

But, believe me... the first day after high school when everyone had to wake up and think what to wear... EVERYONE wished they still had a uniform.

Student have enough to think about with grades, friends, BF, GF, body changes, etc. Having to worry about clothes, fashion, and what you look like is not necessary. Besides, if you know how to work the uniform it can be cute.

In the end, if the student really hates a uniform, then the solution is... GO TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL. The uniform existed before the student got there so it wasn't a surprise.

PS. Most jobs do not have uniforms... unless you work in the food/service industry.

No, it would seem too controlling. Depending upon the job you get, you usually wear what is appropriate. If you work at a chain food/merchandising place, yes you have some sort of uniform. At an office or business, you wear shirts, ties, skirts, blouses that are appropriate. But dictating, the type of clothes one should wear is... I can not think of the word...something like fascism.
The military use that as a form of threat. You see a bunch of people dressed in the same color, type, etc. outfit charging against you and you feel threatened
I realize there is money involved in trying to dress your children while going to school, but there is also money involved buying the uniforms.
When your children are old enough, let them earn the money to buy their clothes.
But going uniform for students, no I disagree. Teach them to be individuals and dress accordingly and appropriately.

Jangles93,
It sounds like a good idea to me, but most kids don't like it, they want to be stylish and fashionable and there isn't much fashion in uniforms. If the school elected to do that I don't personally think it would be the end of the world, but it would take a lot for some to get used to.

It has been proven again and again that uniforms reduce clothing snobbery and competition. Yes, it's a good deal.

Pooh to the person who said you can send your kids to school in uniforms if you want. That is not a uniform. The word uniform means more like all the same.

Enough of bullying in school.

It is hard enough to be a kid any time in history without being bullied over your clothes.

Fallacious arguments all around. There's nothing that says your kids cannot wear a uniform. You wanna send them in some specific set of clothing to school, you go right ahead.

Don't forget -- total hours of time spent in school is but a FRACTION of total waking hours. What will your children wear the rest of the time?

Also - try doing some research about this before you just jump to unfounded conclusions about the so-called "benefits" of uniforms.

If you think kids don't find other things to tease each other about, you are mistaken.

Definitely not. Kids should be able to express their individuality, as long as it's appropriate for their age. I always got on much better at school when I was dressed comfortably. Uniforms are just itchy and embarrassing to wear. I remember it well. Luckily at my school we were allowed to vote against wearing them.

When I think about it,I wonder if it would have mattered in my day
being one of the fat kids in school. I saw someone type that uniforms would eliminate bullying kids who wore less stylish
clothes, but if the student is overweight would the uniform matter?

Kids think that school is a place to have fun. They don't think about what their learning. When they get to choose what they want to wear, it makes them happy. but if they had to wear uniforms, they would come to schol unhappy and not learn as much. So i think that YOU SHOULD NOT MAKE KIDS WEAR UNIFORMS!

i would love to have uniforms at our school. i have 5 children and it would eliminate the added cost of buying new clothes for all of them throughout the year. it would also eliminate the competition and need to impress. kids can express the creativity and all that in their education and work. clothes shouldn't make the person.
