Because we are brought up expecting to fall into a category or the "norm".When the realization that we may not fit into any particular mold comes into play it leaves one feeling a"loss" or grieving you could say, over what they thought they would have in life.To admitt being gay would mean shutting one door of your life and giving up those dreams of yours and your parents... even though in actuality you are opening another that could be just as good ,but different.Society puts such huge restraints in what is and not acceptable and to go against that takes a great amount of courage that i don't believe any straight person could understand fully ;)
