My chihuahua just had her pups and for most dog owners will say about 60 days counting the first day when the dogs mated. My chihuahua had her pups on the 59th day. So be sure to mark your calendar. Just like humans, her bathroom movements will increase, so when she has to go pee or poop she will go anywhere. Don't punish her for accidents or not being her normal self when she needs to potty. This normally starts to happen when she's about 2 weeks into her pregnancy. If she's due for shots consult with your vet to be sure if its safe for her to get those shots. Start switching her food to puppy food so the pup can start getting the nutrients they need during the pregnancy, you will need to keep her on the puppy food until you've weaned the pups.

When the day comes for her to give birth, put her in a kennel no bigger then one where she can walk and turned around in. The bigger the kennel/space she will tend to drag the pup as they are coming out. Let nature take its toll. You don't need any tools etc. What you do need is an extra doggie bed, buy baby fleece/cotton blankets at least have 2-4 in hand. You will need to change the bed and blankets after all the pups have been born. Keep the male away from the pups, normally no matter how much the female and male gets along, when the female has her pups she will not want the male close to her for any reason being.

On that day her water will break, its a sak filled with liquid and its kind of brownish. She will fluffy or claw on her bed and blankets due to the pains of the pups pushing. She will start panting rapidly as well. You will need to stay with her to watch but do not touch and do not help for she might reject you. Normal in dogs. Make sure she's in an area where is quiet and slightly dimmed. So she can do her business. After the first pup comes out you want to give about 30mins to an hour for the second pup. Then the same amount of time for the third pup etc.

If you want you can get an ultrasound, but I didn't. I took my chihuahua to the vet and made sure she's in good shape. I pretty much let nature take its toll. Breeders will tell you that you need scissors and telescopes? etc, you don't need any of that.

Since we're heading into the winter, a good way to keep the pup warm is to wrap a towel over a hot water bottle. It will warm up the pups in no time. I bought a heating pad but the heating pad did me no good. Boil some water, place it in a water bottle, wrap a towel over it, secure with rubberbands or hair ties.

I will be 8 weeks whe my husband and I announce our news to the immediate family. We were going to wait it out until the beginning of the second trimester, but found that we can't. We finally decided that if anything happens to the baby at this point, everyone around me is going to know that something is wrong anyway, so they may as well share in the joy now too. Also, we have a lot of holiday parties coming up before my second trimester, where under normal conditions, I'd be drinking plenty......I know I can just say no to the alcohol and people should be fine with that answer, but that's not always how it works. And I'm not one to lie or hide things. So it's just easier to do it now and get it out of the way. Do it when the timing is right for YOU and don't let anyone tell you anything different! Good luck!

The average canine pregnancy lasts approximately 64 to 66 days. During the first two-thirds of her pregnancy, keep the dog on her normal maintenance diet. The fetus will grow most rapidly during the third trimester; this is when the mother needs a higher-calorie diet (calories and nutrients should be 1 1/2 times greater than the maintenance diet). Do not add supplements or medications unless advised by your veterinarian. Pregnancy diagnosis is usually first reliable around 18 to 19 days of gestation.

Also, I suggest getting x-rays done on/after the 45th day. That's when the skeletons will show up with x-ray and you will know how many pups to expect. That's key!

A dog's gestation period lasts anywhere from 57 to 65 days after the initial breeding. Most dogs go into labor on the 63rd day. With such a little dog, I would monitor here very closely when the due date comes near. Small dogs are more likely to have birthing problems, such as puppies stuck in the birth canal. For more info go to http://www.cpvh.com/Articles/36.html It is really helpful, and written by a veterinarian.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUMHN

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

It usually last about 8 or 9 weeks. Small dogs ususally only have 1 or two pups in a litter.

62-65 days... your veterinarian will seriously be the best person to ask about your dog being pregnant, BUT... if you need some quick info about the whelping process, dewclaw removal and everything else you gotta do when the puppies come I found these site very informational.....

My best guess is to talk to your vet. Also check out the AKC or other breeding sites about this. they usually have online chat rooms or forums that you might be able to ask your ?'s. heres a link to the AKC. I hope everything goes well and you and your new puppies are ok.

Gestation (pregnancy) in dogs lasts two months, or sixty days, give or take a day or two.
