This actually means that a word can't define itself. A word can say what it means, but to understand what it means and to explain what it means, other words are required.
If a word were to be at a beginning, meaning would have had to precede it. Without meaning, it couldn't have been a word.

Word means Truth or Christ or King.

God is a marriage of Good and Truth so it makes sense that Word of Truth is mentioned as being from the beginning.
