I have a tea cup chihuahua 1.5 lb. also I have a 4 year old son and a 10 year old son. My Chi knows exactly what to play with each. With the little one she likes to run after him and play biting his fingers and jump all over him (obviously my son has to lie or sit down in the floor so she can reach him and I taught him to be gentle with her and he is) and with my big son she sits in his lap and licks his hand. With me... She follows me everywhere and loves to sit next to me or on my lap while I'm on the net or watching T.V. she's a big company to me. She is so small I can take her anywhere with me. When the kids come back from school she is the first to be at the door movig her tail to receive them. This is my experience with a Chihuahua We love her very much and she loves us lots. She is our family pet, our friend and our company. I'd always choose a Chihuahua.

I would reconsider the Brussels Griffon. My hubby brought home a puppy a`couple of months ago....I instantly fell in love! She is very smart, funny, cuddely friendly and adorable looking. I am completely fascinated by how clever my little puppy is. She`also is not a barker. Chihuahua's can be yappy. Schnauzers are pretty cute.

Mini Schnauzers are the best. I outta know because I own 3 of these cute furfaces. If you keep them well groomed, they don't shed. My mom-in-law had a Chihuahua and it shed like crazy. And they are very good with children. I also have a 7 month old and they know to be careful around baby.
So my vote goes to the Mini Schnauzer.

I have a chihuahua and my mom has a mini schnauzer. Both have good points.
My chihuahua is very sweet and intelligent and easy to house train. I love the breed. Plus they usually stay under 8 pounds and are easy to clean up 'accidents' and give baths and take places. Plus they love to snuggle because they love warmth.
But Schnauzers dont shed- definately a good quality. They are also excellent watch dogs and will let you know of any movement in your yard. I will also admit that Schnauzers (all sizes) are beautiful dogs- but you have to pay to get them groomed and their hair clipped.
Tough Choice!!
Both breeds are very much a one-person dog.

A Chihuahua is a good one person dog. Some are good with kids, most aren't. If you are looking for a good travel companion, Chi's are good, too. Most are easy to house train, etc. Short hair Chi's shed twice a year. As a Chihuahua owner, I like the Chihuahua.

Mini Schnauzer!! I had a salt and pepper mini schnauzer who was the best dog! They're very bright and loyal and playful. I would highly reccomend the schnauzer of the chihuahua.

I have a teacup chihuahua, she weighs 1.5lbs and was alittle pricey...BUT she is the sweetest !!! She was a little high strung for about the first year, she does bark alot when she sees someone outside, or if they come to the door, but NOT when they enter the house. I wouldn trade her for anything!
