I think her previous owner abused her. Yesterday night, my sister brought her home so we would take care of her because the person that bought her didnt want her anymore. My chi (her actual brother) bosses her around, even though he is smaller. We're going to sell her soon because they don't get along. Any suggestions on how to deal with her low-self esteem?

Yesterday night - you want the dogs to be buddies after a day, give the dogs a chance, when I bring a new dog into my mix it can take weeks and even months for the dogs to settle down.

First of all, if the dog was abused, trust is going to be a BIG issue! You are going to have to give her time to learn to trust again. Then, as she gets to know you, and her surroundings, her "new life", Her attitude will slowly start to change. It may take weeks, even several months for this to evolve. But be patient with her, & talk to her quietly. Don't make fast movements towards her or yell. Loud noises or claps may bring back old memories.

Try getting her into a home that people love her instead of moving her around like an old piece of furniture!
