Very early in Jewish history, the Israelites would attempt to convert people. But you really don't see this after the birth of Christianity. And you certainly don't see it after the Romans sacked the second Temple in 70 AD and scattered the Jews to all parts of the world. Typically the Jews were forced to assimilate or they were persecuted. Many times, they were forced to convert to Christianity in order to escape death such as during the Spanish Inquisition (among many many others). This all led to lower numbers of Jews worldwide. Just in the last century 1/3 of the entire Jewish race was exterminated by the Nazis. I forget the number of Jewish people that it is estimated that Stalin killed - I think I read that it was around 11 million people though. Add to that that census figures from the mid1990s showed that Jewish families were choosing to have smaller families, averaging 1.6 kids compared to the 2.2 that people of other faiths were having. And recent studies suggest that Jewish people who get married outside of their own places of worship will not return or raise their children as Jews.

So the short answer is: 5700+ years of murder, assimilation, and a lower birth rate in recent years.

Jews are quiet people. they keep pretty much to themselves. Jews unlike the rest of the denominations do not openly try to convert. They are a very sincere people. We could learn a lot from them. Not just their examples, but from their history.

If you actually are looking for the ancestory lines.. There a still a good number out there.

Except for a small group of them (the ones wearing the black clown suits) they have opted not to get involved in the practice of trying to out-breed all other religions like the rutting weasel Muslims and Catholics.

Less than 1 % of the world's population.
2 main reasons...so many were killed by Hitler,
and they have no missionaries...do not try to get people to convert to their religion.

The other religions have a habit of trying to wipe out the Jews periodically.

Perhaps, by and large, the Jewish community stays more to themselves and governs themselves differently than the rest of us.
