a) Most theories that say that Jesus had brothers mention that Joseph had a second wife or concubine, and that Mary had no other children.
b) It is a way to show just how highly Jesus regarded John.
c) This particular bit is from the Gospel of John and the author goes out of his way to assert the fact that John, not Peter or anybody else was Jesus favorite disciple. So it is no surprise that the author ascribes to Jesus a weird and outlandish bit, right when he's on the cross and about to die, to drive that point home.

The where abouts of Joseph is not dealt with and he may have died. Jesus was the first born and all authority came to him in case Joseph had died. and as always HE knows best what Mary needed..
If I remember right, all of the Apostles were killed except for John.

John 19:26
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
John 19:25-27 (in Context)
John was actually very young. Jesus did not give Mary to be taken care of by John, but the opposite... Mary would take care of John.

And who are you to say that? Know something nobody else knows? Have you ever had more than one sibling? Or more than just one person in your life? Did all of those in your life always get the same kind of trust? Or was one more trustworthy than another may have been? My grandmother entrusted me with some of her old pictures of when she was just a young girl as she said she knew she could trust me to take good care of them. Does that mean the three sisters I had were not really my sisters because she did not trust them as much with them as she did me? If so you best tell my mother as she has always said they were my sisters and I thought they were. but using your logic, they could not have been, now could they? Just because Jesus told John to care for His mother does not mean He had no siblings, only that He knew that John would take better care of her than they would have.

His older brothers and sisters didn't believe he was God, his younger brothers and sisters weren't old enough.
