I know the recipe generally.

1/4 cup margarine
1 10oz bag marshmallows (OR go by 4 cups mini-marshmallows or 40 big ones)
5 cups cereal
a cup or so of fun add-ins (if you use chocolate anything, freeze them thoroughly first!)

Melt the margarine, add the marshmallows and stir as they melt, too. Let it boil for a couple of minutes. Turn off the heat and carefully stir in the cereal. Just before turning out into a greased 9x13 cake pan, stir in anything you're adding in. Press firmly into the cake pan and flatten with a rubber scraper. Let cool about 10-15 minutes, then cut it into bars. Leave it in the pan to finish cooling. Then lift the bars out carefully and package for sale.

Instead of pressing the hot goo into a pan, you can grease your hands lightly with margarine and form into balls or discs. (If your hands are heat-sensitive, just use the pan method.) If you make discs, you can put a stick into the bottom before they harden completely; that way you'll have marshmallow treat 'pops.' Balls can be wrapped in Halloween print plastic wrap or clear treat bags and tied off with a bit of curling ribbon.

HALLOWEEN TREATS

PUMPKIN GELATIN CANDY

2 (3 oz.) packages orange jello
1 cup hot water

Mix jello and water together and pour 1/2 inch deep into a pan that has been coated with cooking oil. Chill several hours or until firm.

Brush inside of pumpkin cookie cutter with oil. Cut out shape.

This candy will keep in refrigerator for a week, if covered well.

PUMPKIN FACE HALLOWEEN TREATS

15-oz. box of gingerbread mix
8 oz. soft cream cheese
1/4 cup orange juice
red and yellow food coloring
raisins and chopped nuts

Prepare the gingerbread mix according to the directions given on the package for gingerbread men.

Roll out the dough about 1/4" thick. Use a 3"-diameter drinking glass to cut out circles from the dough.

Grease a cookie sheet. Place the cookies on it and bake at 350 degrees for the amount of time suggested on the package.

Spoon the cream cheese into a bowl. Add the orange juice and blend well.

Add two drops of red food coloring and four drops of yellow food coloring to the mixture. Mix well.

Spread about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese mixture on each cookie.

Use raisins and pieces of nuts to make Halloween faces on the cookies.

**************************

PUMPKIN SEEDS

2 cups dried pumpkin seeds
2 T. butter
2 T. soy sauce
salt

Melt the butter in an electric skillet. Then add the soy sauce and the seeds. Stir until brown. Salt if desired. Cool before serving.

RICE KREEPY EYES

Make a batch of regular rice krispies treats. But before putting the mix in the pan, roll the mix into one inch balls instead of spreading it out for squares. Cool normally. When they're done use a small dab of icing and add a single candy dot to each ball. Use red frosting to add 'veins' along the eyeball if you like. Kids love getting these for Halloween! :)

FROZEN JACK-O'-LANTERNS

Cut off tops of 12 navel oranges. Gently hollow out pulp (reserve for another use), leaving a thick shell; hollow pulp out of cut-off tops, too. Cut jack-o'-lantern faces into each orange. Pack scoops of dark chocolate or fudge ice cream into shells (avoid letting ice cream ooze out through eyes or mouth). Cut a hole in top of each orange. Set tops back on, over ice cream, and insert a cinnamon-stick stem through the hole. Place in freezer for at least 3 hours, or until serving time.

DECORATING CUPCAKES FOR HALLOWEEN

Witch's Pussycat:

For ears, bend hollow licorice twists; insert one end of toothpick in hollow, other end in cupcake. Eyes are a black jellybean, halved lengthwise. Add red gumdrops nose, licorice strips for whiskers.

Hooty Owl:

Eye outlines are "peel" cut from two orange jellied fruit slices. His owlish eyes are orange pumpkin candies; snip of candy orange slice makes beak.

Little Good Witch:

Use licorice twist for hat and curls. (make hat crown like cat's ears, but larger.) Add bit of jellied fruit slice for mouth, halved licorice drop for eyes, a candy-coated licorice stick for nose.

JOLLY JACK-O-LANTERNS

6 cups puffed rice
1/4 cup margarine
32 large marshmallows
2 teaspoons vanilla
Few drops red food coloring
Few drops yellow food coloring

Heat puffed rice in shallow pan in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Pour into greased bowl. Melt margarine and marshmallows together over low heat, stirring frequently. Add vanilla and food colorings. Stir until blended and then pour over puffed rice. Stir until kernels are evenly coated. Shape with greased hands to form pumpkins. Decorate with marshmallow pieces and whole cloves for eyes. Use marshmallow pieces or cut gumdrops for mouth and nose. Cut green gumdrops for pumpkin stems. Yield: 6-8 servings.

**Note**Jeanne has written and reminded me of the choking hazards of whole cloves! Please use mini-chocolate chips or small pieces of licorice whips instead. Thanks, Jeanne!!

SKELETON HANDS

Using disposable gloves, put candy corn in tip of all fingers and thumb (for fingernails). Then fill remaining spaces with popcorn. Tie with string or yarn or use rubber bands. Decorate with spider rings on the fingers. The kids love these!! :)

**************************

FRIED PUMPKIN

1 pumpkin
salt and pepper
flour
cooking oil

Slice pumpkin into thin strips. Salt and pepper. Then dust with flour. Fry, turning occasionally, until the strips are browned. Cool and serve.

**************************

BAKED PUMPKIN

3-pound pumpkin
butter
cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut the pumpkin shell in half (do not peel the rind). Cover the pumpkin halves with foil; then bake for 1 1/2 hours or until tender. Scoop out the inside of the pumpkin and mash the contents with butter and cinnamon. Cool and serve.

GHOSTLY TREATS

Spread marshmallow cream on a peanut-shaped cookie. Add chocolate chips to represent the eyes and mouth. Kids will love them!

**************************

WITCHES HATS

Hershey kisses
Keebler (or generic) striped cookies
Orange frosting with a fine tip

Heat a small frying pan on low on the stove. Touch the flat side of the kiss to the warm pan until it just starts to melt. Then place it on the back of the striped cookie in the center. (the stripes will be on the back side) When the kiss has set up on the cookie, pipe orange frosting around the base of the kiss and add a "bow" to the back. They look like little witches hats!

**************************

SWEET TO EAT GHOSTS

Melt white chocolate bark in the microwave. Each student needs a small sheet of wax paper. Pour chocolate on each sheet of paper and work quickly to make a ghost shape. Insert a straw for a easy way to handle after it has hardened.

WITCHES' BREW

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup hot water
1 can (6 oz.) orange juice concentrate, thawed
2 quarts milk
1 pint orange sherbet

Combine cocoa, sugar, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Stir in hot water and simmer, stirring, over low heat, for two minutes. Blend in orange juice and milk. Warm over low heat but do not boil. This can be poured into a "witches cauldron" for a great effect. Ladle servings into mugs or cups and top with miniature scoops of orange sherbet.

Amy sent it this great idea for EDIBLE SKELETONS!! Thanks, Amy!

I used to teach pre-K kids and every Halloween we would make a skeleton out of various vegetables. (Also makes a good party activity) For the head, use a head of lettuce with a hole carved out to hold some kind of dip. Then for the other body parts we used veggies like cherry tomatoes for elbows, sliced cucumbers and squash for the spine, mini carrots for fingers, etc... Just let your imagination run wild! The kids had lots of fun.

WIZARD'S HAT

Dip sugar cones into melted chocolate (this melting can be done in microwave or pot on stove-low heat). Put on waxed paper to harden. Before chocolate hardens, use colored sugar with stencils to make stars and moon on cones. In each child's dish, put a scoop of ice cream and place wizard's hat on top. Decorate the ice cream to represent wizard's face with chow mein noodles or chocolate sprinkles for hair, and small candies for facial features. Thin licorice candy could be used to make glasses.

**************************

MORE IDEAS FOR HALLOWEEN PUNCH

1. Freeze green punch in gelatin mold along with plastic spiders, eyeballs, etc. Float frozen mold in punch bowl.

2. Use rubber gloves (washed thoroughly) to make ghoulish ice shapes for your punch. Just fill gloves with water and freeze for a day. Run water over them to loosen ice from glove and add to punch.

JACK-O-LANTERN SANDWICHES

Take one half of an English Muffin and cover with grated cheddar cheese and make Jack-o-Lantern faces with black olive slices. Bake until cheese melts. Write each student's name on the foil under his/her sandwich.
