have any of you tried giving your dog garlic?
did it work?

if it does work.. can't you just blend the garlic up with some water and then just spray it on their coat?

DON'T FEED YOUR DOG GARLIC!!!!!! I cannnot stress that enough! Garlic is toxic to dogs and cats if they eat large amounts of it. Cats are less likely to eat large amounts of it, but dogs wouldn't think twice about eating too much of it. Garlic and Onions both can cause a disease called "Heinz Body Anemia", which results in the breakdown of red blood cells. For more info on this, you can go to www.peteducation.com. Click on dogs, then towards the bottom of the page click on first aid, emergencies, and poisons.

If you need to get rid of fleas, frontline works best. If you can't afford flea medicines and need an at home remedy, wash your pet in Dawn dishsoap. It works extremely well, just be sure to rinse the pet's coat thoroughly.

Ticks are horrible - the only way to get them off is to pick them & make sure you twist them the right way or else you'll just break the head off & it will keep living, or you can burn them off with a hot needle (not so good on a fidgety dog). Fleas do not respond to garlic at all - the crazy lady I got my kitten from used to feed all the cats & dogs she had garlic & they were still INFESTED with them. Even the powder doesn't work & I have noticed the fleas don't die from flea washes either. The only thing that does it is the spot on applications you get from the vet & to treat the whole house for fleas. If you do a search you may be able to find home remedies for fleas but keep away from the garlic cos it's bad for them.

I have a long haired dachshund. I give him a small piece of garlic wrapped in a small piece of cheese as a treat every day. Sometimes he likes just the garlic. He does not have fleas since I've started doing this for a couple years now. It may be an urban legend or an old wives tale or whatever you want to call it, it works for me. If you're interested in trying it, it isn't a costly way to experiment.

I use white vinegar in a spray bottle. I spray it in the dog bed area. I mop the floor with it too. The vinegar smell goes away quickly. Vinegar is an old fashioned product that still works better than some of the new stuff on the market. It all depends on how much money you want to drop in the stores.'

actually yes, putting about a teaspoon of garlic powder mixed thoroughly with their dry dog food does work to keep fleas and ticks off your dog. I have used this for years and none of my dogs have fleas or ticks and I live deep in the woods in the country. It also helps to treat your yard for fleas and ticks, but as I have found, the chemicals that are allowed to be sold now, aren't as effective at eliminating these pests, which is the reason for the garlic powder in their food.

I do not think that making a garlic spray would be as effective, but it would certainly be more smelly.

I easily have been advised garlic isn't stable for canines. And the folk in this website have reported that. So earlier you are trying this i might examine alongside with your vet. in my opinion, i don't think of garlic repels fleas and ticks from now on appropriate than it would a vampire.

No.
Sometimes it improves their breath!
Dogs especially enjoy garlic on pizza!
What your are getting is an urban legend about the garlic making the dog's skin/blood taste bad.
MAYBE if you rubbed the garlic on the dog....
Then every other dog in the neighborhood would like to lick your dog.
The fleas might pass the word.

No it doesn't... and it doesn't keep mosquitoes away from you either. Try buying the right product for the right job. Look into Zodiac flea and tick spray and then get him on frontline. I purchased frontline on ebay for $7/dose... a pretty cheap way to keep the fleas off.

Most all herbal remedies don't work. As stated before Frontline works and is the best, get that for your pets piece of mind and health.
