When someone talks about playing a round of golf using the "back tees" they mean they're going to tee off using all the usually blue or championship tees. On any given golf course, there are usually three sets of tees. I may have the colors wrong for where you play golf at, but on the public courses in my area, the first set of tees are the ladies' tees and they're the red ones.
Next you have the white or men's tees. They are further back than the ladies' tee and increase the distance from tee to green.
The final set of tees are usually reserved for "scratch" or very low- handicap golfers or those who think their game is really something that it isn't. The championship set of tees, usually blue, increase the distance from tee to green substantially and can turn an "easy" par three into a nightmare if your skill level is not where it should be to drive from these tees. On the other hand, for a really skilled golfer they can turn a boring hole into something much more challenging. Hope this helps.

You are only allowed on this box if you have the big dog in hand and call it the "tips" if you want to sound cool. We are playing the tips is the term and don't go there if you can't spank it.
