They changed me because I thought i was having a allergic reaction to Xanax after being on it for almost 17 years.The Dr. didnt think it was a allergic reaction but he said he would switch me.I guesss since you cant quit Xanax cold turkey he put me on a relative of it.I dont like the ativan....MY dr. knows i have drank beer with my xanax past 3 years and alsoo with my valporic acid(which I just restated last night) I am trying to cut back on the drinking with hopes of totally getting off it.I never knew u shouldnt have beer,my bottle just says alchol might add to the affects. Ha sanyone else done this? Anyways I think I will go back on the Xanax

WOW This is a scary question. You obviously at some level already know you have a serious problem. It also seems as if you have a doctor that isn't real up to speed on Addicitons.
Both xanax and ativan are to be prescribed for SHORT TERM usage not for 17 years and never to be mixed with alcohol.
I could go into a long explanation of how xanax and alcohol are similar but it doesn't matter. You need a psych that know addiction and is willing to help wean you off benzo's.
I was a substance abuse counselor for 16 years and would say you are aware that you need help, now go on with looking for someone willing to help you.
Just wondering what makes you think you were allergic to the xanax. Hope you get the help it seems you're looking for.
And to clarify going off xanax all at once can cause death, but so can mixing it with alcohol.

WOW. Sounds like you have a lot going on. Xanax, beer, and ativan are all downers that will turn oyu into a zombie. How are you even awake right now?
