The couple doesn't want rice thrown at them at their wedding on the beach. It is very casual affair and they are looking for something unique. They have thought about blowing bubbles or having a butterfly release, but they want other ideas. If you know of anything, let me know. THANKS.

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF TIPS AND MYTHS...RICE DOES NOT KILL BIRDS !! IT WAS STARTED SO PEOPLE WOULD NOT THROW IT...BIRDSEED WILL ATTRACT THE BIRDS..THAT WOULD NOT BE GOOD! BUBBLES..TACKY AND STAIN DRESSES..ROSE PETALS IN DARK COLORS COULD ALSO BLEED ON CLOTHING. DOVES ARE GREAT BUT EXPENSIVE..BUTTERFLIES ARE USUALLY STILL IN THE DORMANT STAGE AND NEVER FLY AWAY, WASTE OF MONEY. HOW BOUT THIS... HAVE SOME ONE CREATE A LIGHT WEIGHT SUGAR CONFECTION IN THE SHAPE OF CONCH SHELLS OR STARFISHES TO BE THROWN. LIGHTWEIGHT, DISSOLVES AND GOES WITH THE THEME!!!

Rose petals are really nice. Or you could try different flower petals for something different.
Bubbles are really nice but dont think they will work very well because of being outdoors at the beach. The wind will take them away from who you are trying to blow them at!
Coloured confetti is always nice too. It is classic and fun. Looks great when it sticks in brides hair a little too!!
Another great idea to hire white doves. There are business's that come out to the wedding with 2 white doves and they are trained and during the ceremony at a particular point they are released. It is really beautiful.

DO NOT have a butterfly release-- that is disgusting.
If they can afford it, fresh or freeze dried flower petals can be thrown-- they'd look great blowing in the beach breeze, especially little petals.
They will need something extremely biodegradable or edible by birds, since it is on the beach.
Birdseed? Air-popped Popcorn? Wildflower seeds? Dried Lavender has gotten popular, but I think it is expensive.

I would suggest that first they check to see if they are allowed to throw anything on the beach. A friend was married on Lake Tahoe and they were not allowed to throw anything because some items are harmful to wildlife and birds and they wanted to keep the beach clean. Nor were they allowed to release helium ballons.
THe only thing they could throw was rose or flower petals.

Perhaps they could ring bells?
You might want to have your friend ask the location manager about what can and cannot be thrown. If it is a public beach, they can't throw anything...it's called littering. If it is a private beach, such as at a resort in Mexico or something, then there are probably rules about what can be thrown to protect the wildlife...there's more than just birds to think about on a beach.

If it weren't at the beach I would recommend birdseed. Gulls being the aggressive creatures that they are, however, it's not a good idea (who wants their wedding to turn into a remake of "The Birds?").
How about casting flowers or flower petals on the waves? Nice imagery, very poetic.

I saw a wedding party set off a bunch of helium filled balloons they were all colored white and lilac and had ribbons and was very pretty when they were released.
I thought it a rather unique idea.

Bird seed is always a great idea and environmentally friendly, you can do it as a bombenette alos by putting them in tubes like shooter tubes with tops.

They can release two white doves or white birds, or they can do confetti from maybe something hanging over head or a plane
