As a hairdresser i use maxiglide for all my clients including ones with ethnic course hair. If used correctly and with the right products you hair can be bone straight. I use this on at least 20 clients a day and have had it for over 1 year. It has not let me down on ANY hair type.

That $15 straightener from Wal*Mart will do nothing but frusterate you and make your hair nearly impossible to work with.

You need a good conditioner for curly hair, good products to use while its WET ( i.e. Special Effects Straighten out), blow-dry as straight as you can with a brush, then good products to use after its dry (i.e. Special Effects Flat Iron and/or Dove Intense Frizz Control, and finally, a top of the line straightener.

The absolute best flat iron you can purchase is a Chi Iron. (You say you have a Chi now, you might want to make sure it's not a knock off. and If it 'sucks' as you put it, then you're not using it correctly. You need to follow the directions of a good conditioner and a thorough blow dry before using the iron.) Though expensive, they are the best out there. Nothing else compares and this iron works miracles. Do yourself a favor, take my advice, and be amazed.

Another problem you might be having is being impatient. You need to divide your hair into sections and straighten each section at a time.

try a ceramic iron that heats up to at least 200 degrees. Gets rid of the curls until your hair gets wet and makes your hair silky smooth. don't go near anything that uses steam to straighten. that won't work.

hmm, chi works on my fine, extremely curly hair. have you tried using it with the chi silk conditioner? it may help i use it and it makes your hair slip right through like satin, and it smells great. i would suggest trying paul mitchell's flat iron if you didnt like chi. good luck.

i had really puffy waves -and was fuzzy. but the best soution was getting it chemicaly straightened. and it you can, go to japan, and they have the best chemicals. they cost about $100. not so bad, considering that it will last about 6 months to a year.
